Sue Flather:"John Jackson Kirk's father, James Kirk, came from Scotland, according to the 1881 Census, and I suspect that Elsie's paternal grandfather may have been instrumental in her going to Leith to have her baby when the family were living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. John Jackson (as he called himself by this point) had a fried fish shop on Nun's Lane in Newcastle, which Florence kept going after his death (or at least his disappearance from the Trade Directories around 1910)."
